Why Would Someone Update a Book?

It’s entirely possible that I have a “thing” about updating books. I did it with Party Girl (though that was because I have become a slighly conservative Valley dwelling mom of a toddler whose former self astounds her).

Now she’s done it again!

To be clear, I don’t mean she’s started talking about herself in the third person again, though she’s done that, too.

I’m talking about the fact she’s published an updated version of her 2023 book, On Good Authority (and she is now switching back to first-person).

I did this because it’s a whole different world out there now…not just, well, the world, but the publishing world specifically. ChatGPT was so new when I first released OGA that it felt like it was mostly a tool that you could use to see how much it would hallucinate.

Now that AI has become so ubiquitous that anyone with a computer can declare him or herself a writer by simply typing a prompt and then copying and pasting, authority-building books are more important than ever. Even if AI horrifies you, it’s time to start paying attention if you still want to be discoverable out there.

That’s why the updated version of the book includes information about how to operate in this brave new world as well as anecdotes and wisdom from the dozens of interviews I’ve done since then.

I’ve also added something undeniably new world ish to this version, which is the ability to ask it questions.

Seriously.

We created a program that contains not just the book but also all the background material—hundreds of interviews—so you can go here and ask it for feedback about your specific situation.

Things like how you can use your book to help your business.

Things like whether or not the idea needs refining.

Things like why Robert Greene recommends going on smaller podcasts to promote a book or why Chris Voss believes a book is the best authority-builder a person can have.

For more information about this new version, including links to buy and access to the tool that allows you to dig deeper into it, go here.

Because I’d rather have people absorb the information than make a few dollars off of book sales, if you bought the 2023 version, I’m happy to have the 2026 version shipped to you. Just write me back and let me know.
